TECH EMPOWERMENT FOR EMPLOYMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

Over the past year, IT For Youth Ghana has empowered 150+ young people with essential digital skills through our six-month training program. Of these, 67% are Senior High School graduates who would not have had access to technology education due to financial constraints. These individuals now pursue careers in fields such as programming, web development, graphic design, and more. Notably, 52% of our participants are women, reinforcing our commitment to gender diversity in the tech industry.

REACHING MORE WITH ONLINE LEARNING

To extend our reach, we launched a two-month online learning platform, benefitting 23 students with courses in web development, coding, and digital marketing. This initiative has removed geographical barriers, enabling remote learners to acquire digital skills from the comfort of their homes. Like our in-person programs, majority of the online participants are women, supporting our mission of inclusive education.

TECH AWARENESS OUTREACH

We launched the Tech Awareness Outreach initiative, aimed at educating Junior and Senior High School students about the rapidly advancing world of technology and the importance of starting their digital learning journey early. Through this program, we visited 20 schools and engaged with 800 students, raising awareness about the vast opportunities in technology and inspiring them to begin developing tech skills at a young age.

GUIDING YOUNG PEOPLE INTO DIGITAL CAREER PATHS (JHS TECH CAMP)

Our JHS Tech Camp has introduced 120 Junior High students to digital skills like app and website development. For many, this is their first exposure to technology. The program ensures early access to tech opportunities and encourages problem-solving in their communities. Forty percent of the participants are young girls, helping to close the gender gap in tech.

PREPARING THE YOUTHS FOR TOMMOROWS DIGITAL WORKFORCE (SHS TECH CAMP)

Our SHS Tech Camp continues this mission, providing advanced training in mobile app development, data analytics, and digital entrepreneurship for Senior High graduates. This program equips young people with practical skills, preparing them to excel in today’s digital economy and pursue careers in IT or launch their own tech ventures.

Sustainable Development Goals

Quality Education

Moreover, we ensure that the provision of quality education remains in our mission, while our commitment involves providing free education to individuals from diverse backgrounds irrespective of their socioeconomic circumstances, Top of Form increasing their access to quality education which would have been inaccessible to them.

Gender Equality

In our region of Africa today, technology has been primarily stereotyped with men, thereby marginalizing women, and leading to the perception that they are not well-suited or capable for technological roles, jobs, or skills. However, our foundation is committed to challenging and changing this narrative, by empowering more women with these essential digital skills. We strive to change gender stereotypes and foster an inclusive environment where women also feel confident, capable, and well-equipped to pursue and excel in various technological fields.

No Poverty

Our program seeks to train young individuals with technological skills that are in high demand in the job market, as the world is moving into a technological era. By empowering them with relevant technical skills, they become more employable in this rapidly evolving global economy, where most industries need people with these technological skills. As our program tailors more women, they get the opportunity to be employed or have the capability to connect with other individuals who are having the capitals for startup businesses. This goes along to reduce the reduce vicious cycle of poverty, as unemployment is reduced. The social economic life of these individuals is going to be improved through our digital skill training.

Decent Work &
Economic Growth

We do not only offer free digital training to these individuals and send them back into an unemployable society. Our initiative also creates a platform where they get diverse opportunities to be employed after their training, in response to that we make sure that they are provided with internship opportunities with various companies. We invite some of these companies to come and conduct various interviews at our training centre to employ some of these individuals into their system. By doing this, most of these individuals will be within a working environment, to be employed with a decent job immediately after their training.

Reduced Inequalities

Studies indicate that a significant number of individuals are facing obstacles in accessing quality education due to their financial background. This results in some individuals lacking the leverage needed for empowerment when it comes to quality education unlike their colleagues who are from financially strong backgrounds. I.T. For Youth Ghana bridges this gap and attempts to put the youth with low socio-economic backgrounds on a level playing field as their colleagues who have access to these quality services. Thus, creating equal opportunities in our digital world for the youth with low socio-economic backgrounds.
