At IT For Youth Ghana, we are proud to announce a productive collaboration with the Ghana Education Service, Office of Ga West and Ga East Municipality, and the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) to implement a training program for Senior High School (SHS) students and graduates especially girls. These young women, who have recently completed their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) or on vacation, face a crucial period of transition as they await their results. Therefore, this time presents a unique opportunity to equip them with valuable technological skills that will significantly enhance their prospects in the technology-driven world.
In today’s rapidly advancing technological landscape, equipping young girls with IT skills is essential for their future career prospects and overall empowerment. Consequently, our organization firmly believes that every young person, regardless of gender, should have the opportunity to acquire these valuable skills. By fostering an interest in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) among girls, we aim to bridge the gender gap in these fields and promote inclusivity and diversity.
Our training program is primarily designed to stimulate the interest of SHS students/graduates especially girls in pursuing STEM programs and careers. By providing hands-on experience and practical knowledge, we empower these young women to take full advantage of technological advancements. As a result, the skills they acquire during this program will not only prepare them for further education in STEM fields but also equip them to thrive in the modern workforce.
The training is being conducted at the following GIFEC Centers in Greater Accra region: Amasaman Municipal Assembly, Kwasikuma ICT Center, Manhean Presby ICT Center, Taifa Burkina Post Office ICT Center, Atomic Down Post Office ICT Center, Musuku Kwabenya Main Office, Ada Sege ICT Center, Pantang ICT Center, and Ngleshi Amanfrom ICT Center.
The training is being conducted at the following GIFEC Centers in Ashanti region: Mampongteng ICT Center, Nkwantakese ICT Center, Sawaba ICT Center, Kodie ICT Center, Adukrom ICT Center.
These skills are increasingly critical in today’s digital world, and we are committed to ensuring that the next generation are not left behind.
The training is stipulated to start on 7th October. Our main venue is at our training center located at Kwabenya, Musuku. However, majority of students within the Municipality cannot move to our center due to distance so other centers within the municipalities are being arranged for and will be communicated to parents before the due dates. The training program will last for a period of two (2) months.
The actual program fee is 1,000GHS, but we are seeking your support to subsidize the cost by 700GHS so participants can afford fees of 300GHS to ensure maximum impact and to be able to take care of other costs of the program. This will help us charge minimal fees for students from low-income backgrounds to participate and also be able to make it free for those who can’t afford it at all. This will also ensure that the majority of these young girls and boys can benefit from the program.
